The congregation is just 25 years old and grew out of the vision of Rev Denis Lennon, who at the time was the Rector of St Thomasís Episcopal Church, Glasgow Road. On walking his dog along the top of Corstorphine Hill, Dennis was struck by the vast number of homes in the Clermiston and Clerwood area, and sensed the call of the Holy Spirit to plant a new congregation at the very heart of these communities. In 1988 Emmanuel was born, and since that time has met as a worshipping community in Fox Covert Primary School, and now meets in the Rannoch Community centre. Today a typical Sunday congregation would be 30 people.
Emmanuel is deeply committed to the faithful teaching and preaching of the Bible, Spirit filled living, and witnessing to the power of the Gospel of Jesus, both here in Edinburgh, and further away through numerous mission links. Our Sunday worship is informal, based in prayerful preparation, and seeks to allow the Bible to speak powerfully and relevantly to the times in which we live. We share the Lordís Supper twice a month. We are genuinely an all-age congregation with a wide spread of ages from babies to senior citizens. We have a vibrant network of home-group Bible studies and prayer fellowships, together with a clear focus on growing faith in children and young people.
Through regular outreach events and exploring faith groups, we are committed to reaching those in this area with the news that in Christ Jesus we discover the rescue and love of God for all humanity (1 Peter 3:18). Whether youíre a child, a teenager, a student, single, newly married, a family, a one parent family, widowed, or whatever your stage in life, you will find friendship and empathy within the Emmanuel Family.
